Tory Read has extensive experience working in the United States and internationally with advocacy groups, governments and funders to design bold people-powered initiatives to stabilize our climate and shift humanity to regenerative systems. Prior to joining the Climate Emergency Fund, Tory served as senior global strategist at Greenpeace International, where she led the development of Greenpeace’s Global Campaign for a Plastic-Free Future and supported a wide range of climate and energy projects. She is a creative systems thinker with deep knowledge of campaign strategy, public engagement, non-violent direct action and mass mobilization.
Prior to Greenpeace, Tory founded and led Oceanwork Consulting where she provided campaign, communications, evaluation and mobilization expertise to foundations, donor institutions, advocacy groups, government agencies and frontline communities working for social justice and sustainable forest, ocean and climate systems. Tory holds a Master’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri and a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities from Stanford University. She has also earned professional certificates in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Stanford Graduate School of Business and Advanced Community Organizing from CitizensUK.
